The exceptional design of this pendant could easily enjoyed carriage ride to a ballroom celebrating Napoleon III's ascendancy as Emperor of France, or an afternoon in the gardens of Versailles.
 
This object d'virtu  can be dated almost certainly before 1880, as address of the Jeweler, W. Hart, 47 Neuve des Petits Champs, Paris only existed until that time--when it was renamed by perfectural decreee--to Rue des Petits Champs. The photograph shows 55 rue Neuve des Petits Champs street in 1866. The nature of the address bordered by the Palais Royal and the Place Vendome, suggests a Jeweler to whom only the wealthiest of Parisians might Patronize.
 
This tony address is now home to the World Renown French Interior Design Firm, Pierre Frey.

Description:
The Central 14mm Onyx sphere is surrounded by 29 rose cut diamonds, approximately .01 carat each.  The Onyx is further embellished by flowing swirl motive accentuated by alternating diamonds set in circular and stylized Fleur-du-Lis settings.  The two upper 12mm Onyx spherical stones are offset by four  small .01 carat rose cut stones with a slightly larger central rose cut diamond.  The upper portion and bale of the pendant are set with 17 rose cut stones of various size.  All the stones show good clarity and appear very white.
The pendant features a pin built into the verso of the upper two Onyx stones, suitable to use this as a broach, with the upper bale tucking neatly behind the body if used for this purpose.
The stylized 14k gold chain of recent production (13.1 grams, 19.5 inches) has more yellow tones than the rose gold tones of the pendant, but stylistically shows well.  
 
The price of the Pendant includes this chain, but is not a necessary accompaniment, and the price would be discounted accordingly should the buyer choose the convertible pendant only.
